What we have to REALIZE, as the Office of Inspector General's (OIG) report makes clear communication in the digital age is rapidly changing, changing so fast the doctrines have yet to CATCH HOLD. The recurring recommendation in the OIG report is "continue to issue guidance, including periodic, regular notices, to Department employees to remind them that the use of personal email accounts to conduct official business is discouraged in most circumstances" The OIG report makes clear that it is going to be a struggle to bring the service into compliance with the Freedom of Information Acts.
The second issue, is all this hullabaloo over sensitive but unclassified (SBU) information really worth the effort. We use e-mail in today's digital world very much like we use to use the phone for verbal communications in the past. Verbal Communications, except in the Nixon Oval Office, were perishable and never retained. Has the Freedom of Information Acts requirements now created a monster, that is trying to capture more than was ever necessary in the past, just because, WE THINK, we can???
"Secretary Powell has publicly stated that, during his tenure as Secretary, he "installed a laptop computer on a private line" and that he used the laptop to send emails via his personal email account to his "principal assistants, individual ambassadors, and foreign minister colleagues.""
And Colin Powell was a part of the administration that took us into and ill-advised war in Iraq that cost 100,000s civilian lives, 5,000 American lives and $5trilion dollars.
And the GOP has been investigating Hillary Clinton's e-mails? Because U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, on his own authority, took an ill-advised trip to a knowingly insecure Temporary Mission Facility in Benghazi, Libya on the anniversary of 9/11. The Temporary Mission Facility was attacked by a mob who set fire to several of the buildings with DIESEL FUEL. U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith died of smoke inhalation from the fires while awaiting rescue. None of the ARMED Diplomatic Security Service personnel with Ambassador Stevens in Benghazi ever needed to fire a shot in defense or offense.
HAS the Freedom of Information Acts created a monster and is the attack on Hillary Clinton's use of a personal e-mail server for sensitive but unclassified (SBU) information even an issue, where is the smoking gun.
It is not like we started a war on her authority or lost critical information????
We APPARENTLY need a constitutional amendment to END the judicial sanction of malice, corruption, dishonesty, sincere ignorance, conscientious stupidity and Incompetence
