Gerrymandering is UN-Constitutional. I do not care how long it has been TOLERATED by a common law interpretation!

Counties have representation in the Missouri legislature. People are not represented in the Missouri Legislature.

Elbridge Gerry was one of three men who attended the Constitutional Convention in 1787, but refused to sign the Constitution because originally it did not include a Bill of Rights. After its ratification, he was elected to the inaugural United States Congress, where he was actively involved in the drafting and passage of the Bill of Rights as an advocate of individual and state liberties [1]

Elbridge Gerry was a Democratic-Republican, running unsuccessfully for Governor of Massachusetts several times before winning the office in 1810. During his second term, the legislature approved new state senate districts that led to the coining of the word "gerrymander"; he lost the next election, although the state senate remained Democratic-Republican[2]"

To make a LONG STORY shorter, Elbridge Gerry was a founding father. Elbridge Gerry chose not to sign the, as originally written, Constitution for the United States.

The Constitution for the United States as written, as ratified, and as amended to this date has no constitutional, or statutory, authorization for "gerrymandering."

The Constitution for the United States DOES include Article IV, Section 4:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government".

To mean anything at all Article IV, Section 4 must include EQUAL representation. Without equal representation a, "Republican Form of Government" would include an oligarchy. I refuse to believe that Article IV, Section 4 could authorize or even contemplated "gerrymandering" and/or an oligarchy.

Thomas Jefferson out of government had concurred in his more elucidating statement:

"I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society, but the people themselves (think "Voting," "due process of law" & "juries"): and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their controul with a wholsome discretion, the remedy is, not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. this is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."^[i]

We need to attack "gerrymander" as a United States Constitutional issue.. Gerrymandering creates an OLIGARCHY. Gerrymandering is unconstitutional. We need to eliminate it once and for all from the potential arsenal of the fascists.
