For-Profit-Healthcare Does Not Work and NEVER WILL!
37 of the 38 OECD[1] developed countries have government sponsored universal socialized healthcare. The United States is the only OECD country still with for-profit-healthcare!
The rest of the world learned long ago, that "For-Profit-Healthcare Does Not Work!" Leaving healthcare to market forces is not compatible with "the greater good."
Market forces alone have and will ALWAYS prove the futileness of For-Profit-Healthcare. In economic terms "the haves" will always outbid the "have nots" for the healthcare services. And the price of healthcare will go up and up, the life expectancy of the population will go down and down, while the infant mortality rate GOES up and up and up!
And if Polio and COVID taught us anything, universal well care and vaccinations are essential to maintaining HEALTH!
Supply can never satiate the demand in a healthcare market. We are all going to spend our last dollar to out-bid anybody, everybody to stay alive.
The United States needs to get over their infection of an irrational fear of McCarthyism's Red Scare, and George Orwell's FAR FETCHED ("1984" & "Animal Farm") - never ever got close to happening irrational fear.
An honest reading of Karl Marx's "Communist Manifesto" (1848) posits an uprising of the downtrodden MAJORITY working together to the benefit of all.
An honest reading of Stalinism and Maoism history posits dictators working toward an ill-conceived vision of the good with the death of too toooooo many! Stalin and Mao never held themselves to Marxism.
An honest reading of Adam Smith's (1723-1790) manifesto "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" (1759-1790) posits his inescapable assertion that man is ultimately moral and good. Smith's follow-up assertion in "Wealth of Nations" (1776-1789) of the glories of the expediency of Free Enterprise is premised by the assumed yet ill-conceived perfection of "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" never ACHIEVED.
Now I am a firm believer in the "Communist Manifesto" (1848), "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" (1759-1790), and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776-1789) as books.
I have historically seen too many castles, "gilded ages" in Europe, China, India, United States and etc., robber barons, monopolist, ecological disasters, healthcare deserts, failed benevolent dictators and etc.
Ronald Reagan famously asserted Government is the problem. And in 1980's as now the representative and democratic government was not perfect. But do we give up on Government?
When you are alone in the room, you can do whatever you want. When there are two people in the room you have to make accommodation. And when there are 9 billion people in the world you have to have an EPA, FTC, FCC, FBI, EU, UN, US, BRIC, FDA, FEMA, AMA, ARP, AHA, AAP, and sooo many others. I do not even claim to know what all the acronyms even stand for but in a 9,000,000,000 person world, we need more not less. "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" will not save us.
History has shown us, we cannot rely on Adam Smith's assertion of an "invisible hand" morally or financially. Every leader, for ever and ever, started out as a benevolent leader. That includes every despot, too many fools and way too many family members.
The United States needs to eliminate the unrepresentative Senate, unrepresentative Electoral College and unrepresentative oligarchy on the supreme[2] Court. We need to look around and see just how good most of the world is doing without these aforementioned issues.
The United States needs to get over itself. The United States today is on top economically, not because of "the bright shining city on the hill" we built. The United States is on top economically today because of the hill we built on i.e, the last undeveloped fertile-crescent-like[3] continent on the planet.
