There is NO WAY tariffs do not ADD to (inflate) the cost of goods.
Tariffs shift the tax burden disproportionately from the well-healed to the WORKING-CLASS!!!
I was watching Christopher Waller, one of Bessent / Trump's Fed Chair nominees, a current Federal Reserve employee and a former executive vice president and director of research at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, on MSNBC Squawk Box on Friday 10/10/25.
I refuse to believe this guy actually has the AUDACITY to call himself an economist.
I am just an armchair retired idiot, but Christopher Waller, and anybody thinks like him, is an unbelievable BIGGER IDIOT.
Waller was obviously promoting Trump's "fake news." Waller idiotically asserted, supposedly having talked to a broad swath of Business Executives, that a two teer pricing strategy was being implemented as regards Trump's TAX on the working class (tariffs). Waller said that Trump's TAX on the working class was being passed through dollar for dollar on luxury goods to the upper class, but that the Trump's TAX on the working class was being absorbed by the importers/suppliers on the lower-level goods.
That, as an assertion, can have no credibility at all! Trump's acolytes among the upper 1% may eat the TAX on the working class for a quarter or two. But businesses, especially the larger ones, Walmart, Target, Amazon, can not eat 10%-20% cost increase with less than 10% margin after tax! Any cost, but especially an across the board TAX on the working class has to drop to the bottom line EVENTUALLY!
And saying that it has not happened yet -- delays but does no AVOID the inevitability of the COST!
Now unfortunately for the working class, Triump's TAX on the working class is not on gas or eggs, that can be comparatively tracked, day to day, month to month or year to year. Trump's TAX on the working class is across the board on pencil, pens, paper, computers, rulers, notebook, clothes, school supplies, and sundries.
Trump ran on reducing the 9% Trump/COVID/Biden inflation. He has not even attempted it!!! Trump is adding an inflating TAX on the working class!
There is a reason tariffs (TAX on the working class) were abandoned at or about the ratification of the 16th Amendment (February 3, 1913)! Income Tax is much more equitable way to tax!
